A View of Suria Apartments Bukit
Merah in Perak
This particular incident occurred
when Robin Sng, his parents, uncle and aunty, cousins had their vacation in
Suria Apartments Bukit Merah in Perak. All of them are Singaporeans and they
were having the school holidays (Robin and cousins).
A typical Living Room in Suria Apartments
During the first night Robin
was playing with his toy car together his cousins and the curtains were closed
in the living room, when they noticed there was something beneath the curtains.
Suddenly a black and furry thing jumped out from the curtain and immediately in
a flash the thing darted into the bedroom. Robin and his cousins did not know
what it was and when they told their parents, Robin’s parents and his uncle and
aunty looked for it in the bedroom but found nothing. Eventually they finally
concluded that it must have been a mouse or a rat. On the 2nd day in
Bukit Merah, they spent virtually all their time at the theme park and then Robin
and cousins had their showers before having their dinners. While eating their
dinner and chit-chatting, they heard a mournful wailing coming from the closed
curtains. Before anybody could say anything, the wailing sound turned into a
cackling laughter and it sounded like a woman’s voice.
My uncle hurriedly switch on
the TV and turned on the volume to high to prevent Robin and his cousins from
asking too many questions and being scared. However, his cousins did ask about
the wailing and the laughter but his uncle casually said it must be a customer.
When they finally left on
the 3rd day, Robin’s mother and aunty when back to check that
nothing was left behind in the apartments, when they saw a “mummy” (wrapped
corpse) sitting in the living room. Frightened and terrified they both left in
their van. Robin was only told about these incident years later…shiver!
Note : the “mummy” looks
like a hantu pocong according to Malay myths.
A pocong is an Indonesian/Malaysian ghost that is
said to be the soul of a dead person trapped in their suit. The pocong suit (shroud,
in Indonesia/Malaysia also known as kain kafan) is used by Muslims to
cover the body of the dead person. They cover the dead body with white fabric
and tie the clothing over the head, under the feet, and on the neck. According
to the native beliefs, the soul of a dead person will stay on the earth for 40
days after the death. When the ties aren't released after 40 days, the body is
said to jump out from the grave to warn people that the soul need the bonds to
be released. After the ties are released, the soul will leave the earth and
never show up anymore. Because of the tie under the feet, the ghost can't walk.
This causes the pocong to hop.
