Victorian Institution, Kuala Lumpur

Victorian Institution, Kuala Lumpur
Victoria Institution, the premier school of the Malay Peninsula, has a proud past and a glorious history. It was opened 106 years ago on the bank of the Klang River in High Street, Kuala Lumpur. It is the oldest English school in the Malay States.

The school is located on Bukit Nanas and surrounded by Kuala Lumpur's skyscrapers. The school is famous for its main block building - a red-brick building with Grecian-Spanish influences - which has been classified as a heritage building. It is the most elaborate school building in the city.

Victoria Institution was ideal choice as a Japanese headquarters during the 2nd World War. Ghostly encounters of the Hantu Jepun are commonplace in Victoria Institution. Some of the ghastly and haunted stories are :
“A boy school was tortured during a Japanese base during the Occupation. Many British soldiers and locals were brutally tortured to death in the basement and some older buildings on the campus. It is said that not only are apparitions common in the day as well as in the night, there had also been many cases of spirits possessing students. The possessed boys would behave strangely and even violently harming other students and teachers, forcing the stronger teachers and students to restrain him. The possessed boy would only snap out of it a few hours later and remembering nothing”

The description of the school in the paragraph that mentions Bukit Nanas and the red & white brick building is referring to St.John's Institution & not Victoria Institution.
